Harper speaks to Business League

U.S. Rep. Gregg Harper was guest speaker at the inaugural meeting of the Madison County Business League on August 13, held at the Mississippi Hospital Association in Madison.

Harper reported on the status of the stimulus package, cap and trade bill, military spending and health care reform. After less than eight months on the job, the first term congressman serves on the House of Representatives Steering committee, Judiciary Committee, Budget Committee and House Ethics Committee.

Other guests included Madison County Board of Supervisors President Paul Griffin, Madison County Superintendent of Schools Mike Kent, Madison Mayor Mary Hawkins Butler, and Flora Mayor Leslie Childress.

The Madison County Business League was created by a resolution from the Madison County Board of Supervisors in 2008 to partner with the Madison County Economic Development Authority. The organization strives to fuel continued success in business recruitment and marketing for Madison County and by working directly with the municipalities within Madison County to develop proper planning for future growth and development.
