Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation recently announced the winners of the 2013 Healthiest Hometown awards. Ridgeland was selected as the Healthiest Hometown in Mississippi, earning a $50,000 grant from the Foundation for community health activities.
The City of Ridgeland’s application revealed its efforts to encourage healthy lifestyles through community partnerships among schools, churches, businesses, and government officials. A panel of judges from around the country recognized Ridgeland for its extensive recreational trail system, high profile athletic events, promotion of health and fitness through the city website, teaching healthy lifestyles in the elementary schools and offering a multitude of programs for senior citizens.
