IMPACT: Madison County Spin on 2025 Legislative Session!

MADISON COUNTY SPIN ON 2025 LEGISLATIVE SESSION

2025 Special Session

Community minded focus and warm hospitality are two of the many qualities that make Mississippians and Madison Countians great.  It is important to focus on those traits as we work together to continue to make our State and County greater. We are fortunate to have great leaders in Mississippi and with great leaders come the opportunities and expectations to achieve great results. The 2025 Legislative Session had many successes but did not fulfill some expectations.

The Regular Legislative Session convened on January 7 and adjourned on April 3, with both successes and some struggles to reach consensus on certain matters.  One of the struggles was the State budget, which necessitated a special session being called by Governor Reeves. The Special Session was convened on May 28 and adjourned on May 29, with the focus being primarily the State budget. Ultimately the State budget passed the House and Senate and was sent to Governor Reeves. However, some impactful issues were not addressed during the 2025 Legislative Sessions.

Of great importance to Mississippians are the many infrastructure projects needed throughout the State. As we all know, our Communities and State have aging infrastructure that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. Unless the infrastructure issues are addressed in the very near future, the costs for these projects will continue to rise.

One of those projects is the widening of Interstate 55 between the Gluckstadt and Madison exits. This project involves expanding the interstate from four to six lanes between the Mississippi 463 and Gluckstadt Road exits. While located in Madison County, this project is a vital State-wide Project. All Mississippians travelling north or south on Interstate 55 between Gluckstadt and Madison know that safety and traffic flow in this area are of great concern. Since 2023, our State leaders and the Mississippi Department of Transportation have all advocated and supported this project. Now is the time for us to find ways to complete this and similar projects throughout our State to address the needs of and safety for all Mississippians.

Let’s all work together to continue to move all of Mississippi and Madison County forward!
