Madison County Youth Leadership: Government Day was held on Wednesday,
February 26, 2014. The 2013-14 class began their day with a breakfast
sponsored by the Millsaps Else School of Management at Adams & Reese.
Keynote speaker was Director of Legislation for the MS Department of
Education Pete Smith. Elected officials attending the breakfast included
Madison County Supervisor John Bell Crosby, Madison County Tax Collector Kay
Pace and Ridgeland Mayor Gene McGee. The class traveled to the South
Madison County Annex in Madison to visit with Madison County Tax Assessor
Gerald Barber and Madison County Tax Collector Kay Pace.
The Youth Leadership Class attended the 2014 League & Legislature luncheon at the MS State Capitol where they were recognized in both the senate
chambers and by MCBL Chairman Sherry Chance. During their visit to the
capitol the class met with Governor Phil Bryant, Lt. Governor Tate Reeves,
Speaker of the House Philip Gunn, Rep. Rita Martinson, Rep. Bill Denny, Rep.
Jeramey Anderson and many more local elected officials. Curator of the MS
State Capitol Brenda Davis lectured the students on the history of the
capitol.
