MCEDA Announces the Purchase of 520 Acres

The Madison County Economic Development Authority (MCEDA) has completed the purchase of an additional 520 acres within the Madison County MegaSite, which brings the total acreage under Madison County’s control to 900 acres. Today’s purchase follows several years of strategic land acquisitions which started with obtaining the first land options back in 2012. Madison County’s proactive actions in securing the remaining acreage within the site demonstrates the community’s commitment to economic development. Earlier this year, the County executed the sale of 69 acres within the site to a private company that will be the initial tenant.

Successful economic development strategic planning has a long-term view.”, said Sheila Jones, Madison County Board of Supervisor. “MCEDA has a vision to ensure we have readily available product when competing in a global business environment, giving Madison County a competitive advantage. This purchase is one more piece of the puzzle that helps to enhance Madison County’s competitive edge.”

The current environment of industrial projects is fast-paced. Site location consultants and industries have high expectations when siting a new facility. Communities need to be prepared to meet the increased speed to market companies demand when deciding to construct a new facility. The site is development ready with all due diligence surveys completed, which means that wetlands and environmental consideration have been identified. Additionally, infrastructure build out is already underway. This includes a one-mile paved access road that has been partially funded through grants from The Mississippi Development Authority, Entergy Mississippi, and The Delta Regional Authority. Once complete the MegaSite will have full infrastructure capabilities on-site which will include a 300 MW Substation with triple redundancy, as well as full sewer, gas, and water with a one-million gallon water tank.

MCEDA continues to build a comprehensive marketing plan to help promote the attributes of the site to key target markets. Madison County’s recruitment efforts focus on the advanced manufacturing, warehouse and distribution and data center sectors.
