Adams and Reese attorney Phil Buffington has been elected Partner in Charge of the firm’s Jackson office, which has 34 attorneys and more than 50 employees on staff. The firm has 16 Partners in Charge, one for each of its offices across the southern United States and Washington DC.
Buffington also serves as the Co-Leader of the Adams and Reese Banking and Finance Team. The Banking and Finance Team represents financial institutions and their holding companies, subsidiaries and affiliates, throughout the southern United States.
“I am looking forward to the opportunity of serving as Partner in Charge of our Jackson office in continuing to make a positive impact on our community as a better place to work and live,” Buffington said.
A Mississippi native, born in Canton, Buffington has been practicing law since 1984 in transactions, and has extensive experience in representing financial institutions, including representation in regulatory matters, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, commercial law and securities law. He also has experience in insurance regulatory law, creditor bankruptcy, real estate and nonprofit organizations. In addition, he has experience in banking litigation and administrative hearings in state and federal courts and federal agencies, including mediation and arbitration proceedings.
Buffington is a member of various sections within the American Bar Association, including the Banking Law Committee. He is also a member of the Business Law Section of the Mississippi Bar Association.
Buffington is an adjunct professor at Mississippi College School of Law, and is a former President of the Mississippi College School of Law Alumni. He earned his J.D. from Mississippi College School of Law in 1984. He double majored in banking and finance/insurance at University of Mississippi, earning a B.B.A. in 1981.
In the community, Buffington is heavily involved with St. Andrew’s Episcopal Cathedral, having served in various positions and on numerous committees, and has served on numerous community and nonprofit organizations boards.
