Mississippi Treasurer Lynn Fitch has tapped Cory Wilson of Madison to serve as Senior Advisor. In that capacity, Wilson will assist Treasurer Fitch and agency leadership with development of policy initiatives relating to the Treasurer’s duties, oversight of state and national legislative affairs, communications, and implementation of Treasury rules, regulations, and strategic planning.
Since 2011, Wilson has managed the Jackson Office of Heidelberg Steinberger Colmer & Burrow. He will continue his relationship with the firm.
I am excited that Cory agreed to join my staff, and that Heidelberg Steinberger allowed Treasury to ‘borrow’ him for another stint in state government,” said State Treasurer Lynn Fitch. “He’s an accomplished lawyer whose talent, experience, and passion for good government will be a tremendous asset to the agency.”
Previously, Wilson served from 2005-2006 in the Pentagon as a White House Fellow under President George W. Bush, and served from 2008-2011 as the Deputy Secretary and Chief of Staff for Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann, handling the day to day operations of the 100-employee agency. In March 2013, Wilson was appointed by Governor Phil Bryant and confirmed by the State Senate to serve on the College Savings Plans of Mississippi Board of Directors, where he has worked closely with Treasury staff on improving both the MPACT and MACS programs.
A native of Moss Point, Mississippi, Wilson attended the University of Mississippi, where he graduated summa cum laude in Economics in 1992. He received a law degree from the Yale Law School in 1995, where he served on the Yale Law Journal. Wilson will begin working with Treasurer Fitch in March 2014.
